-- Preface
Chinese watercolorists are first-rate
in the world in the mastery of basic skills. Vast territory and abundant
resources, natural beauty and cultural splendor, rich and colorful life, admirable
cultural background, all this have provided rich nutrition and adequate materials for
watercolorists. Since the reforms and opening-up, the Chinese watercolorists
have come to know more about the outside world of fine arts and achieved much
progress in ideology. Watercolor painting is much cherished by the public with
its unique language, elegance and gracefulness that is close to life. The
advancement of the times and the changes in conception are inevitably reflected
in the field of arts. Therefore, transformation and attempts that go beyond the
limit of painting classification, whether in idea, skill or material, are in
conformity to the trend of times and therefore beneficial to the development of
arts. The watercolor paintings exhibited here give an expression to the
phenomenal talents of the artists.
