Preface
The sculpture circle in
China in the recent 10 years has
appeared unprecedentedly active. The interweaving and interactivity of
diversified culture has aroused sculptors' passion to initiate and participate.
Their wisdom, talent and vitality are fully focused on the solicitude for the
development of national culture and the consideration over world culture in an
integral and strategic way.
The historic process of
China's modernization has
forcibly promoted the development of urbanization. The involvement of sculpture
has effectively elevated cultural quality and beautified the environment, giving
the vast urban space expressiveness and affinity. The connotation of sculpture
itself is also endowed with more awareness of public, environment and society.
Thus, responsibilities and care for the society and the people are embodied in
sculptors as reflected by the society as a whole.
The research and
practice in space, language, material and medium of sculpture itself occupy a
dominant position in the trend of the academic development of sculpture in
China . The pursuit
of individuality and personal style, new artists and new pieces constantly
coming to the fore, sense of originality and fluctuation -- all this have become a
consensus commonly followed by the Chinese sculptors in their artistic practice.
From the ten pieces displayed here, a glimpse of Chinese sculpture of today can
be caught.
