Call for designs of large-scale opening ceremonial activity, logo, mascot and theme song for 7th China Arts Festival Updated: 2002-10-16
The China Arts Festival is an important national cultural and art pageant for
ordinary people throughout the country. Approved by the Chinese government, the
festival was initiated in the autumn of 1987. As a high-level comprehensive art
activity, the China Arts Festival plays an important role in enriching people's
cultural life and promoting sustainable development of culture and art.
To ensure the success of the 7th China Arts Festival, we are collecting
designs of large-scale art activity, logo, mascot and theme song for 7th China
Arts Festival.
1. Basic rules of the 7th China Arts Festival
Theme: To develop advance culture, and to inspire national spirit Tenet: A
pageant of arts, and a festival of the people
2. Requirements:
1) Giving prominence to the theme of "To develop advance culture, and to
inspire national spirit", reflecting the time spirit and local features.
2) The logo should be based on the festival logo and the characters of China
Arts Festival. It should reflect the local culture and a pageant of various arts
at the same time. Originality of the design should be easy to understand, and
the designs should not be complicate, but vision-attractive. The standard color
and characters of this festival should be embodied in the logo.
3) The mascot for the 7th China Arts Festival should be adopted from local
customs and cultures of Zhejiang. There are no confines on the forms except that
it should be lively and lovely. The mascot should be prepared in two forms --
2-D design for presswork, ads and posters, and 3-D design for souvenirs and
other propagandistic materials in public. 4) The theme song should
reflect the national features and local cultures of Zhejiang area. No confines
on styles and forms.
5) All candidate works should be original and haven't ever been published.
3. Soliciting measures:
1) The manuscript for the design of the large-scale opening ceremonial
activity should be complete and in detail. Detailed implementing plan and budget
for expenditure should also be included. The large-scale art activity at the
opening ceremony should be controlled in 2 hours.
2) Colored standard design, black-and-white design, proportion of the design,
and descriptions of the original meanings are required for each candidate work.
The designs should be made or printed on A4 paper, while computer designs should
be recorded on CDs with remarks of the software in use.
3) Operns and sample cassettes of the candidate theme songs are required,
with a time limit of 5 minutes. 4) Each candidate work should be
prepared in 3 copies.
Please mail your works to the Office of Zhejiang Preparing Committee for the
7th China Arts Festival, on it with notes of "Applicant Works for the 7th China
Arts Festival" and detailed introduction of the author.

3) The deadline for soliciting blue prints of the large-scale art activity at
the opening ceremony is January 15, 2003. The deadline for soliciting designs
of the logo and the mascot is December 25, 2002. The deadline for soliciting
theme songs is March 31, 2003.
4. Awarding
Experts will evaluate all the candidate blue prints of the large-scale art
activity at the opening ceremony. The logo and mascot will be chosen through a
popular vote together with expert evaluation. The works that are chosen will be
announced on the Website of the 7th China Arts Festival, as well as on
newspapers such as China Culture News and Zhejiang Daily in the May of 2004.
The copyrights of the chosen works belong to Zhejiang Preparing Committee for
the 7th China Arts Festival. Participating works will not be returned no matter
chosen or not.
5. Right for final explanation lies with the Office of Zhejiang Preparing
Committee for the 7th China Arts Festival.
