Cultural Agreement Between the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of the People's Republic of China
The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of the
People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as "the Contracting
Parties"), desirous of strengthening friendly relations and cooperation for the
purpose of better understanding and long-standing friendship between their two
countries, have decided to conclude the present Agreement, the provisions of
which are as follows:
Article 1
The Contracting Parties, in accordance with the principles of equality and
mutual benefit, agree to promote exchanges and cooperation in the sphere of
culture.
Article 2
The Contracting Parties agree to cooperate in the fields of science,
education, art, sports, the press, broadcasting, the cinema, television,
language training, publication and activities of juveniles as well as other
social organizations.
Article 3
The Contracting Parties agree to take all necessary measures to promote and
improve cultural exchanges.
Article 4
The Contracting Parties shall encourage direct cooperation in the field of
culture between relevant institutions and organizations.
Article 5
With a view to implementing the present Agreement, the Contracting Parties
agree to negotiate and confirm exchange programs (or annual programs) for a
period of time and the expenses for the cultural exchanges on special meetings.
Article 6
This Agreement shall also be applied to Berlin (West) in accordance with
existing status.
Article 7
This Agreement shall enter into force on the date when the Contracted Parties
inform each other that their interior conditions are ripe for the Agreement. The
Agreement shall remain valid for a period of five (5) years. Thereafter it shall
be automatically renewed for successive periods of five (5) years unless either
Contracting Party requests its termination by written notice to the other served
at least six (6) months prior to the date of expiration.
Done in Beijing in 1979. In duplicate in Chinese and German languages, both
texts being equally authentic.
