The Government of the Republic of Hungary and the Government of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as "the Contracting Parties"), desirous of promoting exchanges between their two countries in the sphere of culture, science and education, and with the belief that cooperation shall promote mutual understanding between the two countries and strengthen friendly relations of their people, have decided to conclude the present Agreement, the provisions of which are as follows:

Article 1

The Contracting Parties, in accordance with the principles of equality and mutual benefit, agree to promote exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, science, education, public health, the press, broadcasting, television, sports and tourism.

Article 2

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation between China Academy of Sciences and Hungary Academy of Sciences, and China Academy of Social Sciences and Hungary Academy of Sciences on the basis of signing direct agreements.

Article 3

The Contracting Parties shall promote cooperation in the sphere of education, and encourage the exchange of experiences and information. The two Parties shall promote cooperation in the fields of practical sciences and technical sciences on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

Article 4

The Contracting Parties shall exchange undergraduates, postgraduates and students of advanced studies for studying or training in colleges and universities of the other Party.

Article 5

The Contracting Parties shall recognize certificates, degrees, diplomas and professional titles awarded by colleges and universities of each other's country. Therefore the two Parties shall create conditions and settle relevant agreements separately.

Article 6

The Contracting Parties shall promote Sinology and Hungaryology, encourage researches on languages, culture and history of the other Party's country by their own institutions of higher learning and experts, and support teaching and research works in these fields. Therefore the two Parties shall provide each other with relevant materials and documents, and exchange language and cultural teachers.

Article 7

The Contracting Parties shall exchange senior scholars, experts to give short-term lectures and attend academic activities in institutions of higher learning and research institutions of the other Party's country.

Article 8

The Contracting Parties shall encourage the establishment of direct cooperation between colleges, universities and other educational institutions of the two countries.

Article 9

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation in the fields of culture and art.

The Contracting Parties agree to receive visiting cultural and art experts, performing troupes and artists of the other Party and organize performances, hold art and other exhibitions, promote exchange of film shows and staging of opera and music works of the other Party's country, promote translation and publication of literary, art and scientific works, promote direct cooperation between cultural institutions and literature associations, and support commercial cultural exchanges.

Article 10

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation between museums, cultural relics preservation institutions, libraries and archives, and encourage exchange of professional magazines, books and archives.

Article 11

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation and exchanges in the fields of medicine and public health.

Article 12

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation in the fields of broadcasting, television, news agencies, newspapers and journalist associations of the two countries.

Article 13

The Contracting Parties shall support extensive cooperation between China Sports Committee and Hungary National Youth and Sports Committee.

Article 14

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation between Chinese People's Associations for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Hungary International Cultural Association.

Article 15

The Contracting Parties shall support cooperation in the field of tourism, support the attendance of tourists at cultural activities, get-togethers, science and educational activities held in the other Party's country.

Article 16

The Contracting Parties shall provide the other Party's personages with necessary conditions to complete their tasks, including the use of scientific and cultural institutions, libraries and archives.

Article 17

With a view to implementing the present Agreement, the Contracting Parties shall draw executive programs with a certain time limit and its fiscal provisions. The negotiations of the executive programs shall be held in turn in Beijing and Budapest.

Article 18

This Agreement shall enter into force on the date when the Contracting Parties begin implementing their respective legal procedures and inform each other of it. It shall remain valid for a period of five (5) years. Thereafter it shall be automatically renewed for successive periods of five (5) years unless either Contracting Party requests its termination by written notice to the other served at least six (6) months prior to the date of expiration.
