Cultural Agreement Between the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Government of the People's Republic of China
The Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Government of the
People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as "the Contracting
Parties"), desirous of strengthening friendly relations and promoting exchanges
between their two countries in the sphere of culture, education, the press,
public health, art and sports, with the principles of respecting each other's
sovereignty, independence and equality of rights and interests, have decided to
conclude the present Agreement, the provisions of which are as follows:
Part 1: Culture and Juvenile
Article 1
The Contracting Parties shall encourage the following cooperation in the
sphere of culture and art, including opera, film, music and plastic arts:
(a) Reciprocal visits of writers, artists, cinema and television workers,
bookmakers and other elites in the art circle, for the exchange of achievements
on these fields; (b) Exchange of performing tours by troupes of artists,
holding performances and concerts; (c) Exchange of exhibitions introducing
the other Party's cultural and art achievements. (d) Translation and
publication of other Party's literary works.
Article 2
The Contracting Parties shall encourage cooperation between museums,
libraries and other cultural institutions, including the exchange of books,
publications, films and broadcasting programs on social, technical and art
issues:
Article 3
The Contracting Parties shall provide facilities to the other Party's
personages attending international meetings, conversaziones, programs and the
like on education, culture and art held in the Parties' countries.
Article 4
The Contracting Parties shall promote and encourage athletic sports and
juvenile activities via reciprocal visits of sports teams and exchange of
experiences.
Part 2: Tourism and Cultural Relics
Article 5
The Contracting Parties shall endeavor to promote tourism between the two
countries.
Article 6
The Contracting Parties shall encourage the excavation and preservation of
cultural heritage in their own countries, and organize reciprocal visits of
experts on cultural relics preservation.
Part 3: Mass Media
Article 7
The Contracting Parties, in accordance with each other's present laws and
regulations, shall create appropriate atmosphere for activities included in the
executive programs of this Agreement, and provide facilities to the other Party
for use of the press, hence helping the people learn about the achievements made
by the other Party's country on culture, science and art.
Article 8
The Contracting Parties shall encourage direct cooperation between publishing
houses, broadcasting and television organizations, and encourage reciprocal
visits of personages in journalism.
Part 4: Education and Public Health
Article 9
The Contracting Parties agree to implement the following cooperation in the
fields of education and public health:
(a) Encouraging cooperation between colleges and institutions of higher
learning of the two counties; (b) Promoting the exchange of visits and study
tours by professors, experts and teachers; (c) Encouraging reciprocal visits
and study tours of researchers according to approved plans by the two
Parties; (d) Providing the quota of scholarships to each other's students
(undergraduates and graduates) according to needs and possibilities.
Part 5: General Principles
Article 10
With a view to implementing the present Agreement, the Contracting Parties
shall draw periodical executive programs with executive items and expenses for
the cultural exchanges included.
Article 11
This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of approval by the two
Parties' governments and shall remain valid for a period of five (5) years.
Thereafter it shall be automatically renewed for successive periods of five (5)
years unless either Contracting Party requests its termination by written notice
to the other served at least six (6) months prior to the date of expiration.
Done in Oman on November 11th, 1979. In duplicate in Chinese and Arabic
languages, both texts being equally authentic.
