Agreement on Cultural Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of the People's Republic of China

The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Contracting Parties), with a view to further strengthening the existing friendly relations between the two countries and promoting mutual understanding and friendship between their peoples and desirous to develop closer cooperation between the two countries in the cultural field, have agreed as follows:

Article 1

The Contracting Parties shall encourage exchange and cooperation in the fields of

(a) Literature, music, visual and performing arts and other cultural activities;
(b) Education;
(c) Science and technology;
(d) The press, radio, television and the cinema;
(e) Tourism;
(f) Sports.

Article 2

The Contracting Parties have agreed to conduct exchanges and facilitate cooperation through

(a) Exchange of professors, scholars, journalists and other specialists for visits, lectures and teaching;
(b) Exchange of delegations in the fields of education, culture and art;
(c) Exchange of art and cultural exhibitions;
(d) Exchange of radio and television programs, films, tapes and other audio-visual materials on art;
(e) Exchange of visits by artists, art troupes, sports teams and coaches;
(f) Exchange of publications and other materials on culture, education, science and technology.

Article 3

Each Contracting Party, according to its ability, shall endeavor to provide the nationals of the other Contracting Party with scholarships and other facilities for study, training and research in its country.

Article 4

Each Contracting Party shall study the qualifications for academic degrees and school certificates granted by universities and other educational institutions in the country of the other Contracting Party for the purpose of their mutual recognition under a special agreement to be concluded for this purpose.

Article 5

Nothing in this Agreement shall affect the obligations of any visiting personnel from the country of either Contracting Party to comply with the laws and regulations in force in the country of the other Contracting Party concerning entry, residence and departure of foreigners.

Article 6

The Contracting Parties shall for the purpose of implementation of this Agreement sign annual cultural exchange programs at the governmental level.

Article 7

The present Agreement shall enter into effect on the date of mutual notification by the Contracting Parties of fulfillment of their respective legal procedures and shall remain in force for a period of five (5) years. It shall be automatically extended for successive periods of five (5) years unless either Party notifies the other of its intention to terminate the Agreement by giving written notice to this effect six (6) months prior to expiration.

Done in Beijing in November 1979. In duplicate in the Bengali, Chinese and English languages, all three texts being equally authentic.
