Cultural Agreement Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines
The Government of the People's Republic of China and
the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (hereinafter referred to as
the High Contracting Parties), desirous of strengthening friendly relations
between the two countries and promoting and developing exchanges in the fields
of culture, art, education and sports, have agreed as follows:
Article 1
The High Contracting Parties agree to promote the development of mutual
beneficial relations in the fields of culture, art, and education on the basis
of mutual respect for sovereignty and in conformity with the laws and
regulations in force in each country, bearing in mind the interests of their
respective peoples.
Article 2
The High Contracting Parties, subject to the laws and regulations of their
respective countries, shall endeavor to accord to each other every facility to
increase mutual understanding and exchanges in the fields of culture, art, and
education.
Article 3
The High Contracting Parties agree to promote exchanges in sports and
physical education through holding athletic competitions on the basis of
reciprocal invitations.
Article 4
The High Contracting Parties agree, on the basis of reciprocity and subject
to the laws and regulations of their respective countries, to adopt the
necessary measures for the protection in their respective territories of the
literary and artistic property of each other's nationals, including national
cultural treasures.
Article 5
The High Contracting Parties agree that the Ministry of Culture of the
People's Republic of China and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of the Philippines shall, through diplomatic channels, consult on details for
the implementation of the present Agreement and work out programs of cultural
exchanges.
Article 6
The present Agreement shall enter into force on the date of signature, and
shall remain valid for a period of three (3) years, renewable automatically for
successive periods of three (3) years unless requested to be terminated by
either Party by serving a written notice to the other Party six (6) months prior
to the intended date of termination.
Done in Beijing on July 8th, 1979. In duplicate in Chinese, Philippine and
English languages, all thee texts being equally authentic.
