The Most Beautiful Lakes in China
Namtso Lake's touching beauty should not be missed by any traveler who visits
Tibet. Its purity and solemnness are symbols of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. In
Tibetan, Namtso means 'Heavenly Lake.' It is considered one of the three holy
lakes in Tibet. Namtso is famous for its high altitude (4720 meters (about 3
miles)), vast area (1961 square kilometers (about 757 square miles) and

Tianchi Lake
Area: 10 square kilometers; 204meters above sea level
The volcanic Tianchi (Heavenly) Lake, 10 square km in area and 204 meters in
average depth (373 meters at the deepest), marks the boundary of China and Korea
on the top of Baitou Mountain, the main peak of Changbei Mountains. Skirted on
all sides by mountains, the lake is known for its sublime natural beauty.
