Pleasures of the Table in 10 Cities
Actually the so-called traditional Beijing dishes are actually Lu-style (Lu is
short for Shandong Province). Dongxinglou restaurant on Guijie Street and
Taifenglou restaurant in Qianmen serve authentic Lu-style dishes. They are both
among the "Eight Restaurants" of Beijing and have a history of more than one
hundred years.
However, no matter how
delicious the banquets are, sometimes you get tired of them. Don't fret. You can
find some delicious snacks too. There is a restaurant called Douyichu serving
shaomai (steamed dumpling with the dough frilled at the top). It is said that
Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) wrote the sign band. The place
has many kinds of the most common of stuffing, with the most delicious being
pork and Chinese cabbage. And we cannot skip the traditional Beijing fast food
-- noodles with fried soy paste. Noodles are rolled out and cut by hand. The
fried soy paste is made from stir-fried meat slices and salted & fermented
soy paste.
กกXi'an: Lingering traditional taste
The people of Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, like all
those living in the northwest, are straightforward and generous. Xi'an people
despise miserliness, so Xi'an food is usually served in large portions.
