Pleasures of the Table in 10 Cities
You can find large or small-scale night fairs near the schools and food markets.
Not to mention the countless traveling night fairs. Of the millions of night
fairs in Taipei, the Shilin District night fair, as the oldest and largest night
fair, is number one. Some stalls have a history of more than 30 years.
Dabingbaoxiaobing (a small deep fried dough cake that is covered by a big
pancake) is a unique Taipei snack that you rarely find in other places. The most
popular dessert is mianmianbing (an ice-based dish). The ice is first slowly
shaved by ice shaver and put into a big bowl. And then stir the ice back and
forth until it becomes soft.
The bustling, steaming sight alone arouses your appetite, so just indulge
yourself in this moving feast.
กกHong Kong: A sea of fresh seafood
Surrounded by sea on three sides, Hong Kong has its advantage in seafood. The
Chinese counterpart of the word "seafood" is hai (sea) xian (freshness). Hong
Kong people seem to understand the two words most deeply. First, all the seafood
must come from the sea; freshwater fish does not count. Secondly, the seafood
must be fresh.
