Shanghai-East Meets West
The term "Shanghai Bund" is likely to be associated with a busy port station,
grandiose and grotesque architecture and the dazzling prosperity peculiar to
China's flashiest city. These elements all play a part in giving stylish
Shanghai the moniker the Paris of the East.
The Bund itself is the most visible reminder of Shanghai's colonial heritage.
It starts from the
Garden Bridge (Waibaidu Qiao), the connecting point of the Huangpu River and
the Suzhou
Creek, and continues for 1500 meters to Jinling Road East.

The west side of the Bund is famous for its
architecture. With around 52 buildings of diverse architectural styles like
Gothic, Baroque, Roman, Classic and Renaissance, the architecture lends the area
a European flavor, and serves as a reminder of the multicultural history of
Shanghai.
