"Gongwangfu showcases a half of the Qing history," said Hou Renzhi, a
renowned historical and geographical expert.
He Shen, a minion of Emperor Qianlong, first built this complex. Legend has
it that He Shen looked like a beloved woman of Qianlong. Twenty years after the
death of that woman, He Shen was then just 20 years old. At the sight of He
Shen, Qianlong believed that He Shen was the transmigration of his lover and
bestowed favor on this young man.
