The Visual Appeals of Sichuan: Its Scenery and People
Yellow poplar in Daocheng
A poet says that autumn has golden wings, and
that when the autumn wind becomes full-fledged, those happy people will spread
the wings and fly. Yellow poplar is the wing of autumn.
Outside of Daocheng County, there is the world's largest batch of artificial
poplar woods on the highest altitude (3,700 meters). In autumn, the poplar
leaves turn yellow and transparent in the sunshine. In the gusts of wind, the
leaves dance and fly like golden butterflies.
Blue sky in Yading
Yading means " the land toward the sun" in Tibetan, as it is the nearest
place to the boundless sky. In Yading, the sky takes on its primitive blue
color.
Yading is mainly comprised by three mountains -- Xian Nairi, Yang Maiyong,
and Xinuo Duoji --, which symbolize respectively the three Bodhisattvas in Buddhism
.
Against the holy mountains is the very blue sky, which is not as easy to
glimpse as expected. It seems as if the mountains are guarding the way to
another dimension. Therefore people can only wait with patience, hold their
breath, and meditate, until a gale blows away the clouds, unveiling the door to
heaven -- the primitive blue of the universe, so deep and so bright.
