Wudalianchi Scenic Area
According to scientists, the spring water contains more
than ten elements beneficial to health, and is very good both for maintaining
health and treating ailments. It has been proven to have certain curative
effects for stomach trouble, iron deficiency anemia, chronic cholecystitis
(gallbladder inflammation), neurasthenia (nerve exhaustion), skin disease, and
high blood pressure, and so on. Hence, it is also called "Divine Spring" and
"Holy Water." Today there are more than fifty sanatoria in the lake area,
which can accommodate thousands of people every year.
During a visit to Wudalianchi Scenic Area, the former minister of China's
National Defense Ministry -- General Zhang Aiping -- improvised a poem,
depicting the open, imposing, and magnificent view of the area. Tens of
thousands of years ago, the area was an extensive stretch of wildness, but
thanks to the crustal movement, volcano cones rose straight from the ground one
after another, breaking the silence of the wildness.
There were originally 12 old volcanoes, lined on both sides of the Bai River
and covered with lush vegetation, forming a lively pre-historical painting full
of wild interest. With the eruption of mountains Laohei and Huoshao, Mother
Nature put the finishing touch to her huge long-lasting project, creating the
spectacular volcanic landscapes -- the Wudalianchi Scenic Area.
As a member of the UN Human & Biosphere Protection Organization, the
scenic area is also among the first batch of China's world geology parks.
Experts from world tourism organizations have praised the place as one of the
"Top World Tourism Resources." Yue-sai Kan, the famous Chinese-American TV
anchor, once claimed Wudalianchi spring water had brought her "an amazing and
unspeakable surprise."
