Nine beautiful places for Chinese blockbusting movies
Kekexili--Kekexili
"Kekexili" is one of the few films in recent years that really shocked
people. Director Lu Chuan, a leader of new generation in Chinese film circles,
proved his strength with cinematic language.
The film was shot in unpopulated Kekexili, where a relentless, harsh
mountainous plateau in China's west is found. The vast, chilly area is called
the Forbidden Zone for human beings. The primitive natural environment and the
frail grasslands there have been a kingdom for many rare wild animals on the
plateau. The most spectacular scenes are of snow-covered mountains, glaciers,
lakes, volcanic lava and simmering hot springs
.
Big Shot's Funeral-- Taimiao
" Do not strive for fine, but for expensive," which was a classical line
of Feng Xiaogang's New Year's film" Big Shot's Funeral" (Da wan), which became a
catch word in society. The movie satirized the ridiculous essence in society by
a hypothesized funeral held in a Taimiao temple
.
Taimiao is located just southeast of the Forbidden
City and once served as the imperial
ancestral temple of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
As the only construction in the Tai Miao style preserved
in history, it consists of three main halls, two gates, two subsidiary shrines,
and various accompanying buildings. In 1950 it was converted into the "Working
Peoples' Cultural Palace," where operas and other events could be held.
