Beautiful Sanya, Fantastic Bay
Wuzhizhou Island has a tropical maritime climate, warm and
agreeable all year round. Arbor trees are tall and straight, and shrubs
luxuriantly green; silver beaches stretch long and unbroken; and, mountains rise
steeply. When strong winds come in, great waves rise as high as 10 meters to the
beat of a huge water drumming along the shore to create both aural and visual
sensations.
Although it covers an area of only 1.48 square kilometers, Wuzhizhou Island
is one of the rare islands with abundant fresh water resources and lush
vegetation in Hainan Province.
The Guanri Yan in the southeast of Wuzhizhou Island is the best place to
watch the sea. Standing cliffside, people can enjoy a panoramic view of all of
Hainan.
The island is also one of the coastal areas where natural resources are best
conserved. Clear and transparent seawater makes it a natural fishery zone and
excellent for undersea sightseeing.
Tianyahaijiao
Tianyahaijiao means "the end of sky and the corner of the sea" and
is a scenic spot located alongSanya's western seaside. The overall geographic
layout includes a land area of 10. 4 square kilometers and a sea area of 6
square kilometers.
The beautiful natural scenes and stone carvings are unique and have drawn
fame to the area.
The green water and blue sky blend together to form one hue, and joined with
magical mist, rolling waves, sail boats, dancing coconut trees, and stone
forests form a beautiful poetic picture. The huge rocks on the beach, carved
Chinese
characters of Tianya (the edge of the sky), Haijiao (the corner of the sea),
Nantian Yizhu (a pillar stands up in the southern sky), and Haipan Nantian (the
sea judges the southern sky) were respectively engraved and have become unique
scenic spots in Hainan.
Beaches, fishing platforms, and pleasure-boat docks provide interesting
activities for tourists, and mountain tours are another attractive route for its
Dianhuo Tai (Torch-lit Tower of the 11th Asian Games), Wanghai Ge (Seaview Pavilion),
Huaisu
Ting (Pavilion for Memory of Dr. Su Dongpo), and the winding paths up to the
mountains.
However, in ancient China during the feudal dynastic period, the
Tianyahaijiao was a place especially for exiled criminals, and few of them
succeeded in returning to their homes.
