Bamei Village -- A Peach Blossom Valley
Under the Moonlight
At dusk, people go home with firewood on
their shoulder. The smoke from chimneys rises from all directions, while the
fragrance of meals permeate the air.
When night falls, women gather together to talk about domestic trivialities
while knitting or sewing while men gather in an open area, smoking, chatting, or
watching the moon and stars.
This is an independent society, which is far away from the outside world. The
majority achievements of modern civilization, like airplane, automobile and
electricity have not affected the rhythm of Bamei people.
The Immutable Bamei
Zhou Zhiliang is a 29-year-old father of
two children. He once went out to work in Shenzhen, but he could not endure the
new environment. So after 3 months he went back home and continued his paradise
life. The outside world only left an impression of noise and confusion on him.
Everything at Bamei has its ancient standard and criterion. People clearly
know the position that sunlight reaches under their own eaves in different
seasons.
Most of Bamei people are restrained, patient, amiable, and generous. For
them, the distance to modern civilization is still remote.
