Kanas Lake:Journey for Monster

The inspection team discovered some animal's skeletons along the lakeshore. After a careful research, they believed the animals to have possibly been killed by some huge animals in the lake.

In July of 1985, Xiang Ligai, the department director of Xinjiang University, and Yaun Guoying, a researcher with the Xinjiang Scientific Research Institute of Environmental Protection, led an inspection team respectively, entering the Kanas Lake district to carry out a comprehensive survey at Kanas Lake.

In the morning of July 20, when professor Xiang and his inspection team were appreciating the beautiful scene, suddenly they saw something red in the lake. At first, Xiang thought perhaps they were water plants or driftwoods. However, after observing them by telescope, he found that the red things were moving. The fish's head was about 1 meter in diameter; its color was as red as the cockscomb. On the fish 's back, there was a red line, which was about 5 meters long.

Professor Xiang guessed that the moving object was actually a fish; a red fish.

According to Yuan Guoying, the biggest fish on that day he saw was more than 10 meters and he believed that the so-called lake monster was the Hucho taimen.

However, although the inspection teams tried many times to cach the fish in the next few days, the fish did not swallow the bait. Finally they had to give up.
