Explorative measures

The tourism administration of the Thousand Islets Lake is currently considering two options on building some facilities to give common visitors access to the unique underwater cities.

One option is to build a small submarine with the holding capacity of 48 people. With a budget of 50 million yuan (US$6.25 million), the submarine could take the passengers 34 meters underwater to watch the almost-intact 2570-meter long city wall built in the Ming Dynasty as well as a number of exquisite memorial archways and many other ancient buildings. According to the divers, the feeling of floating in the water to enjoy the ancient buildings within a very short distance is totally different from watching them on dry ground.

The other option is build an underwater museum, which will be linked to the ground above by a glass corridor. This idea may cost more to develop, but will avoid the damages to the ancient buildings caused by submarine-induced swirls.
