Ancient Incense Craze

Are diamonds really a girl's best friend£¿Not necessarily, when compared with a bottle of the world's premium brand perfumes like Chanel No. 5. In China, Western perfumes have dominated the upscale segment of the fragrance market for years but few people know that hundreds of years ago, China had its own perfumes based on the country's unique culture and tastes. The perfumes were not only used to pamper the nose, but also represented a way of life.

Worshipping the Spirits

When the ancient Chinese formed cults to worship gods and their ancestors, they usually burned sacrifices or simply certain plants to make a heavy smoke, thinking that they could communicate with spirits through the smoke.

Having evolved gradually and been popularized later, the practice has become a way of showing respect for spirits by burning incense. But the incense of later ages was improved, and some fine incense produced especially for venerating spirits appeared, including some types of incense imported from India and Iran. The most common types at present include single incense and winded joss sticks.
