The Beijing 2008 Olympic Slogan
"One world, one dream", the slogan of the Beijing
2008 Olympic Games was unveiled in the Beijing Workers' Gymnasium on June 26,
2005 by Mr. Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political
Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
"One World, One Dream," is an embodiment of the wisdom of hundreds of
thousands of people. It conveys a lofty ideal of the people of Beijing as well
as of China, to share in a global community and civilization, and to create a
bright future, hand in hand with the people from the rest of the world. It
expresses the firm belief of a great nation, with a long history of 5,000 years
and on its way towards modernization, that is committed to peaceful development,
a harmonious society and people's happiness.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge said in his
congratulation letter to the BOCOG on hearing the slogan: "Using sports to
promote peace and understanding enables the Olympic Games to be unique and
attractive to the whole world. We feel great that the slogan of the Beijing 2008
Olympic Games has embodied the essence of Olympic spirit explicitly."
The BOCOG has decided to use "one world, one dream" as slogans of both the
Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the 13th Paralympic Games.
