Colorful Bazaars in Xinjiang

Yengisar daggers

Most Yengisar daggers have curved blades, and hilts made of either wood, horn, copper or silk, and inlaid with brightly colored fine designs and patterns. Some are even inlaid with gems, making them valuable works of art. Besides the Yengisar daggers, the Kuqa "Peacock Dagger" is famous near and far. Local men often wear daggers and look quite impressive wearing beautifully made Yengisar daggers.

Kashgar Bazaar

Kashgar means "a jade-like place" in the Uyghur language, because it is known for its vast reserve of beautiful jade stone. Human activities such as hunting and fishing existed here as early as 4,000 years ago.

The Great Bazaar, also called "East Bazaar" by the local people, is an international trade market for central and western Asia. With a history of more than one thousand years, it was once a prosperous market on the ancient Silk Road and still plays an important role in local people's lives today.
