Colorful Bazaars in Xinjiang

In the summer, vendors wash fruit and array them under lamps to make them more appealing. Xinjiang produces Hami melons, watermelons, Munag grapes, Turpan grapes, Kurle fragrant pears, pomegranates, etc. Most Uygur girls are named after pomegranate flowers. Nuts and dried fruit are another major category in Erdaoqiao bazaar, including raisins, currants, walnuts and almonds.

Fabrics from Uzbekistan and household ornaments and henna dye from Pakistan jostle with local goods, handcrafted knives and hand-woven carpets.

Ingeniously handcrafted Yengisar daggers are a famous traditional handcraft of the Uygur people. The daggers are of unique designs and exquisite workmanship. They not only serve as knives, but also as ornaments, and are popular with local and foreign tourists as souvenirs of the Silk Road.
