Ancient city blocks of Xi'an
The Beilin District (Forest of Steles) of the city is planning to
explore more high-value cultural spots centered on the South Gate such as the
Xiangzi and Baojing temples. These places have not been recognized for their
tourist values and therefore have remained idle in usage for a long time.
Echoing other scenic spots in this region, a multi-dimensional tourism center
pertaining to Confucianism, Buddhism,
Taoism, and Islamism cultures is planned for construction.
The city's Lianhu District is considering rebuilding another ancient block
centered on the imperial city (Chang'an) of the Tang
Dynasty (618-907), as well as the starting point of the Silk
Road. The focus will be on restoring the momentum and glamour of the city in
the Tang Dynasty.
The protection and development of the ancient blocks have greatly boosted the
cultural inheritance, folkway demonstration, and tourism of Xi'an.

The municipal government issued the Regulations on Protection of the History
and Culture in Xi'an on July 3, 2002, which rules that the Beiyuanmen, Sanxue
Street, Zhuba Market, Defu Alley, and Xiangzi Temple regions within the City
Wall are the ancient blocks of Xi'an. According to the regulations, the
construction in these regions should be maintained or properly restored to the
traditional style.
