Teahouse in Chengdu: the Shadow of Culture

The similar scenes can be seen in most parks in Chengdu. People sit with their families and friends, chatting, laughing, and, of course, drinking tea. The cup sitting on the saucer looks like a boat floating on the water, hence the name of "the tea-boat". The cover keeps the water warm and also adjusts the steeping speed of the tea. If you want to drink it immediately after the tea has been made, you can use the cover to strain the tea. So the tea can be soaked quickly enough and the tealeaves won't go into your mouth.

In dynastic times, the luxury of spending the day in a teahouse enjoying Sichuan opera was reserved for Chengdu's upper crust only, but today with the enormous economic development in China, teahouses become popular social rendezvous. More and more people go to the teahouses for business talks. In some of the teahouses you can even enjoy theatrical performances, such as storytelling , cross talk and Sichuan opera.

The Shunxing Old Teahouse embraced its customers with its charming home-styled dishes and tea services. All the delicate details expressed on the furniture, ornaments, lighting, costumes of stuff and the style of dishware reflect the traditional lifestyle in western Sichuan. But be careful-don't expect a traditional price! As soon as the guests enter the teahouse, the waiters and waitresses in their traditional cotton uniform greet them with a smile on their faces and with teapots and cups in their hands. After the guests have been seated they set the cups on the table and pour the water from behind the guests or from above their heads. But don't worry- when the cups are almost full, the waiters or waitresses raise their hands high suddenly, yet not a drop of water is spilled! Every evening, the guests, especially those from other cities or countries, would not only be impressed by its remarkable cultural surroundings but also fascinated by the magic stunts of Sichuan people, such as mask changing, fire spitting, etc.

Lang Tao Sha is one of the most luxurious teahouses in Chendu. The furnighingss and services there are by no means inferior to those at any five-star hotels. You can enjoy similar quality of tea services in the Huangcheng Laoma Hotpot Restaurant. After a hot and spicy dinner, you can soon calm down, sipping tea and enjoying various performances in great comfort and luxury and leave all the hustle and bustle behind you.
