"Painting" with Flowers
How to make pressed flowers
n Step 1 Collecting
flowers
The best time to collect flowers is 9-10 a.m. on a sunny day, which is the
moment when the plants are stretching their branches and leaves and flowers are
blossoming.Flowers and branches can all be cut together, because it can prolong
the life of flowers. Next, flowers should be placed in a plastic bag along with
two cotton balls soaked with a hydrogen peroxide solution, to keep them from
rotting.
n Step 2 Pressing
The next step in the process is pressing, which is the key to producing the
art. The most important part in pressing is having the right equipment, some of
which can be difficult to obtain in the domestic market. However, much of the
necessary equipment can be made at home.
Some of the supplies required include two boards with holes drilled in them,
as well as four screws to adjust the boards. A sealed box and a desiccant are
also required.
The process of pressing is nearly the same as the process of making plant
specimens. Firstly, put the flowers or petals on the blotting paper (such as
toilet paper, cotton paper, or newspaper), and then cover them with another
blotting paper, doing this step a couple of times. Lastly, use bricks to press
the flowers, putting them in a dry and ventilated place, and change the blotting
paper once a day. Seven or ten days later, the flowers will be dry.
