"Painting" with Flowers
Without any artificial coloring or chemicals, and using only "nature's magic
paint," the most extraordinary art works can be created. Pressed flower art can
combine floral design with drawing and painting, and the possibilities for
creativity are endless. Utilizing modern drying technology and flower pressing
techniques, the life of the floral art work can be extended for years of
enjoyment.
A highbrow pastime
Originally taken from making plant samples, "pressed flowers" is an art form
using dehydrated fresh flowers as materials, which are glued onto a board to
create various pictures. The trick is to keep the flowers "alive" as long as
possible.
From its inception, the art of pressed flowers was an aristocratic pursuit.
In the Victorian period, pressed flower art was very fashionable among ladies.
The genteel ladies amused themselves with this art. Even Grace Kelly, the late
American film star and princess of Monaco, left behind many pressed flower
works, and she set up garden clubs and initiated many activities about the art.
Fashionable at the time in the U.S., Japan and England, pressed flower art was
considered a "highbrow" pastime.
