Shaolin Kung Fu: A Way of Life
The Hard Qi Gong is the most fascinating Shaolin discipline, and is the one
most likely to be depicted in films or other media. Some monks following this
discipline can perform handstands on one fist or even two fingers, break iron
with their heads, break a brick with one hand or even change their own body
temperature.
Shaolin monks are also known for their dexterity with weapons like sticks and
swords.
In addition to martial arts and Zen Buddhism, health development is another
facet of Shaolin Kung Fu. Medicinal and Qi Gong practices are both commonly used
to achieve both mental and physical health. All Shaolin monks are said to know
something about medicine and those with more proficient martial arts skills
usually have a better mastery of medicine.
