** Excavation of the Ancient Musical Instrument: Jian Drum

Tomb M27 takes the shape of "ÖĞ," which contains marvelous masterpieces, including bronze weapons like tomahawks or daggers, strings of ornaments that are made from agate, pearls, and shells, and other lacquered wood articles. What is more, the oldest "Jiangu Drum" has been uncovered along with other musical instruments like the "Bianzhong Bell" and "Shiqing Stone."

** Gold Sheath Funeral Object

Tomb M27 is also noted for the buried person's decorative gold wears, ranging from a sheath to a sophisticated carved loop. The graceful gold items, especially the exceptional sheath, are brilliantly polished and well preserved. Meanwhile, they serve as treasured materials for the study of gold articles made in the Zhou Dynasty.

The newly excavation of the cultural relics of the Western and Eastern Zhou dynasties represents the greatest contribution to archeological finds in China this year. The well-preserved ancient tomb complex with such a large scale is a rarity in the history of archaeological excavations.

The massive burial articles constitute an integral part of the valuable literature for the study of the history of the Zhou dynasties and the study of the ancient cultural of both the Zhou and Shang (16th-11th century BC) dynasties. With the extension of the excavation, more information related to ancient culture and customs are expected to be unveiled. The find is surely a landmark in the history of archaeological research.
