The filming artist Cui Wei
After the War of Resistance Against Japan began in 1937, he went to
the northwest to stage many dramas reflecting the people's battles against the
aggressors. In 1938, he went to Yan'an
of North China's Shaanxi
Province to take part in the establishment of the Lu
Xun Art Academy and teach in the school's drama department. After that, he
created a cluster of progressive dramas.
In 1956, Cui went to Beijing Film Studio where he became
the director of the artistic committee and a film director himself. He also
performed in a dozen films including Song of the Red Flag, New
Story of an Old Soldier and Soul of the Sea. During the period, he
also directed a multitude of influential films like Song of Youth,
Zhang Ga the Soldier Boy, People Of The Great Northern Wasteland, Red
Blossom of the Tian Mountain, and Women Generals of the Yang
Family
.
The roles he played in the movies are characterized by their distinctive
national flavor thanks to his rich experiences and profound artistic
achievements.
