Miaodigou Site

Site of the Neolithic Age

Location: Shanxian County, Henan Province  

Period: 3,900-2,780 BC

Excavated from 1956 to 1957

Significance: The find has clarified the time sequence of the Yangshao Culture and the Longshan Culture, as well as their mutual relationships.

 Introduction

Miaodigou Site, covering an area of about 362,000 square meters, includes both the Yangshao and Longshan Cultures. Miaodigou Culture distributed over mid-Shaanxi, south Shanxi and the west of Henan provinces is the most prosperous kind of the Yangshao Culture. Miaodigou ¢ò Culture was the continuation of the Yangshao Culture, and later developed to the Longshan Culture in Henan Province. In the Miaodigou Site a large quantity of stone wares, bone wares and pottery has been excavated, which provide important references for research on the development of Chinese ancient culture.
