With the old name Zhao Mo, Jin Shan (1911-1982) played the role of Vanya in the Chinese modern
drama Uncle Vanya. A native of Yuanlin County in Hunan Province, Jin Shan led a half-vagrant life in
his youth. In 1932 he joined the Left-Wing Dramatist League and Chinese
Communist Party. Having devoted himself to stage art, in his lifetime he
directed over 40 modern dramas, played over 70 parts in different dramas such as
The Inspector General, Professor Mamen, Qu Yuan and
Paul Kechajin.
Jin Shan was praised for his
excellent performance in the drama Uncle Vanya. With simple but forceful
action, he was expert in revealing the inner world of various
characters.
