Beijing Hebei Bangzi Opera Troupe
The Hebei Bangzi Opera is one of the major 360 local operas in China. The
Bangzi Opera took shape during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its arias combine
deep expression and exquisite style, especially when it comes to tragedies. The
performance skills of the troupe have influenced countless other local operas.
Established in 1960 as an affiliate of the Beijing
Municipal Cultural Bureau, the troupe has created and performed more than 150
plays since its founding, covering a wide range of subjects and styles. Some of
their more famous repertoires include Butterfly Cup and Wang Baochuan.
Aside from various awards garnered in China, the troupe has also
performed internationally, including participation in opera festivals in Greece
and Columbia. Its classic work The Tebas City, based on an ancient Greek
tragedy, made its debut in the China-Korea-Japan Opera Festival (BESETO) held in
Beijing. They have also appeared at the China Legendary Art Festival held in Hong
Kong and the Ninth China Opera Festival held in Ningbo,
East China's Zhejiang
Province.
