The Nanjing Municipal Drama Troupe

The Nanjing Municipal Drama Troupe, established in 1960, has gained its reputation among the audiences in the past four decades with more than 130 repertoire programs. Currently, it is one of the most influential troupes in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province.

In 1989, the troupe undertook the "Nanjing Small Theater Drama Festival" which was cosponsored by the China Dramatists Association and Nanjing Municipality's Cultural Bureau. Ten troupes from across the country participated in the festival, and 13 programs were staged, all winning high accolade from the people in the circle.

In the past ten years, the troupe has fostered some new repertoires reflecting the changes of the modern society such as Xu Honggang, Kong Fansen, The Roaring Yangtze River and Ordinary People. Among those works, The Roaring Yangtze River, which has been performed more than 300 times, won the Eighth Wenhua Award for New Plays issued by the Ministry of Culture, While Ordinary People obtained the Wenhua Award - the highest honor for any Chinese artwork at the Seventh China Arts Festival in September 2004.

With a philosophy of being close to life, the troupe will produce even more excellent works in the future.
