Dunhuang Art Theater of Gansu
The Dunhuang Art Theater of Gansu, formerly Gansu Provincial Song and Dance Troupe, was founded in 1961.

The Theater takes upon itself the mission of inheriting and preserving the human culture in Dunhuang Grottoes and spreading its eternal spirit. In 1979, the dance drama Flowers of the Silk Road which was collectively created by the playwright group of the Theater, revived the well-known Dunhuang frescoes on the stage for the first time and caused a great sensation. In 1979, the Ministry of Culture issued the first creating prize for it. In 1994, it won the gold award in the 20th century Chinese National Classic Dance Contest. Following Flowers of the Silk Road the large music and dance Kong Hou Yin, the large dance music and dance Dunhuang Ancient Music and a large number of dance programs including Xi Liang Music, Ling Po Dance. In the clouds, Fine Dance Posture and Nice have been created one after another. In 1995, Dunhuang Ancient Music won the new theatrical piece prize of the Fifth Wenhua Award issued by the Ministry of Culture. The Theater has successively made guest performance in such countries as the DPR Korea, Japan, Italy, France, Thailand, Russia, Latvia, Protugal, Trukey, Spain and the United States.

At present, the theater's leading artists are Xu Qi, Han Zhongcai, Zhu Jiang, Su Ping, Yan Jianzhong and Zhong Jufang.
