Yuediao Opera Troupe of Henan Province

The Yuediao Opera Troupe of Henan Province was founded in June 1949. Over half a century since its founding, the troupe has staged more than 200 traditional and contemporary operas popular among the people like Recruiting Jiang Wei, Zhuge Liang Pays a Condolence Call, The Execution of Guan Yu, Capturing Meng Huo Seven Times, Li Tianbao Gets Married, Grandma Bai Gets Drunk, Women Generals of the Yang Family, Stealing in the Melon Garden, Butterfly and Flowers, Bitter Vegetable Flowers and Quarrel Between Families Related by Marriage.

The troupe has won many prizes in various provincial opera festivals. In 1992, it staged Zhuge Liang Pays a Condolence Call and Quarrel Between Families Related by Marriage in Shanghai with Shen Fengmei winning the White Magnolia Award. In 1995, its newly created historical opera Capturing Meng Huo Seven Times, preformed at the 3^rd Gold Triangle National Opera Festial, won 8 grand prizes. Its contemporary opera Quarrel Between Families Related by Marriage won the Ministry of Culture's Wenhua Award for best new play and the 1^st Henan Province Excellent Art Work Award.

Major artists of the troupe include first grade performers Chen Jiang and He Quanzhi.
