Quanzhou Municipal Gaojia Opera Troupe

The Quanzhou Municipal Gaojia Opera Troupe was set up in November 1951, its predecessor being the Dazhong Opera Society of Quanzhou City.

The repertoire of the Troupe includes Successive Promotions, A Havoc in Hua's Family, The True and False Wang Xiu, Jingde Accepts the Sea and Ode to the Great River. Among them, the satirical comedy Successive Promotions and other clown operettas were selected into the Collection of Ten Great Comedies of Contemporary China.

The Troupe was warmly welcomed by Hong Kong compatriots as well as overseas Chinese when giving performance in Hong Kong and the Philippines.

The new historical play Ode to the Great River won a grand prize of the best program at the National Local Operas Exchanging Performances and eight excellent prizes in creation, director and performance, etc. At the same time it also won the Wenhua prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture and the Cao Yu literary drama prize.

The leading artists of the Troupe are Cai Youhui, Li Zhenrui, Yan Peiqiong, Ouyang Yanqing and Wu Disi.
