The Tianjin Municipal Children's Art Theater was established by reorganizing Tianjin Children's Puppet Show Troupe in the 1985. The Troupe has produced on stage more than 60 puppet shows since its establishment. They include Three Attacks on the white Bone Devil, Gold and Silver dragon Princes, Piggy Ba-Jie Carried His Wife, Trick of the Fox, The Young foreign Guy In Tianjin, The Magic Fruit Of Wish and, etc. among which Big-belly Buddha Mile won the excellent program prize in the 1992 China National Puppet Shows and Shadow Plays Festival and Wenhua award of the Ministry of Culture in 1997. The puppet show The Legend of Du Zichun has been performed in Japan. The hand puppet show Brothers Beating The Tiger has been performed in Germany and Australia.

The Theater has staged more than 30 shows such as The Happy Hanz, The Adventure of the Mischievous Imp, The smart Rooster, Zhou Enlai in Nankai University, Youth Huo Yuanjia, Nima Sun and etc., among which high school students' play Red Dragonfly won the Wenhua Award in 1993 and Ma Lu And Qi Lihua have won the Plum Blossom Awards.

Now the Theater has prestigious artists as follows: Li Jingcheng, Wang Youwei, Ma Lu and Qi Lihua.
