The National Theatre Company of China
(NTCC), established on 25 December 2001, merging the former China Youth Art
Theatre and China Central Experimental Modern Drama Theatre, is the state level
artistic performing troupe under the Ministry of Culture.
NTCC has attracted a cohort of talents from
the fields of stage drama, TV and film arts. It offers a platform where classics
from the world theatre, as well as new productions, are represented. It also
offers a stage for avant-garde artistic experiments.
During the first year since its
establishment, NTCC has presented five plays on its stage, including The Dawns
Here Are Silent (Former USSR), The Crucible (USA), The Visit (Switzerland), Head
Without Tail, Call Me Brother. It has also brought some plays from the
repertoire of the former two national theatres to Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao,
and Japan, in various international theatre festivals.
NTCC will establish and improve a set of art
management system, with a new open stage to encourage more artists in their
various theatrical experiments, and hence more state-of-art plays to
emerge.
The president and party secretary of NTCC is
Zhao Youliang, with vice-presidents including Zhou Yuyuan, Huang Xiling and Wang
Xiaoying. Yan Fengqi serves as the vice party secretary while Yang Zongjing is
the general art supervisor.
