The Chinese Dramatists Association was established in August of 1949. It now has nearly 10,000 members. Its subordinated organs include the China Stage Art Association, the Opera Research Society of China, the Chinese Association of Puppet and Shadow Play Art, the Chinese Children's Play Research Institute and the China Society of operas and Literature. It publishes several magazines, including Chinese operas (monthly) and Plays (monthly). It has also established the Theatrical Publishing House of China and the China Artistic Audiovisual Studio.
