The Internet in China has developed rapidly despite its late introduction. Even in the early 1990s, Internet was still an alien word to the public. Nowadays, China has shaken off the shackles of its manual past and enthusiastically embraced the world of chips, bytes, and information technology.

There are many exciting steps in this process, such as China inventing its first chip, which is a landmark in China's information industry. E-commerce has brought Chinese consumers into an age where the click of a mouse can order anything from an airline ticket to a bag of groceries, while the integration of information technology will improve the quality of the nation's products. But of greater significance is the advanced wireless digital network that will ensure government operations become more transparent and efficient.

All of these new changes indicate that along with the development in electronic and information technology, China also will follow its footsteps and continue to make great strides on this wide road...
