Established in
1978, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS) is affiliated with
China Meteorological Administration.
The academy has
a research team of experts from home and abroad. There are 554 staff members, of
whom 22 are researchers, 103 are associate researchers and senior engineers, and
236 are assistant researchers and engineers.
CAMS has seven
research institutes (or centers) and six laboratories (or experimental bases).
It is a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive research institution. While
concentrating on research area of applied meteorology, it also takes up basic
research of atmospheric science.
The academy was
one of the first batch institutions to grant master's degree of atmospheric
science. It also has instructors for doctors. The academy has established
bilateral or multilateral cooperation with more than 30 countries and regions
and sent staff members to study abroad, over 250 have completed their study and
returned to China.
It has two
advanced academic periodicals: Journal of Applied Meteorology (in Chinese and
English) and Annual of Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (in
English).
