Xi Shengmo (1835-1896) was a native of
Linfen, Shanxi Province.
He was born into a wealthy family but it was
unfortunate for him that his two wives died one after another. After that he
tried to find spiritual extrication. In 1876, his hometown was hit by drought.
Some missionaries came to Linfen, and Xi Shengmo got to know them. Soon after,
he was baptized to embrace Christianism.
In 1886, he became a priest. It was one of
important events in the 19th century that a traditional local tyrant
could accept Christianism.
