Yixing Mussaenda

It belongs to the Mussaenda L. Genus of the Rubiaceae Family, with the Latin name of Mussaenda anomala.      

The climbing shrub has taupe twigs with clear lenticels. It bears opposite oval leaves, about 13 to 17 centimeters long. Its Cyme is acrogenous, about 6 centimeters long. The white sepals expand into petaloid form. The corolla usually splits into 5 parts, each of which is about 3 millimeters long. Its berries are 6 to 10 millimeters long, with a diameter of 4 to 8 millimeters.

It mainly grows in moist and sunny places in valleys, where the average annual temperature is 17¡æ and the annual amount of rainfall is about 1,800 millimeters. The pH value of the yellow earth there is 4.5 to 5.5. It climbs around the trunks of lower arbors and is seldom found in flourishing forests or brushwood.

It's only found on Dayao Mountain in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The specimen was firstly gotten on Yaoshan Mountain in Guangxi in 1936, but in the last few years no more has been found after several surveys in Dayao Mountain. This species, particularly shaped, is a rarely found variety of Mussaenda L. Genus in China. It is of great value for scientific researches.
