Water Shield

Water shield belongs to the Cabombaceae Family, also known as Water lily, with a Latin name of Brasenia schreberi. In China it is mainly distributed in lakes, ponds and morasses of the provinces south to the Yangtze River.

Water Shield, which floats on the surface of water, is a sort of perennial herbaceous aquatic vegetation. Its oval leaf is 6 to 10 centimeters long and the petiole looks like a shield. Water shield has hermaphrodite flowers, with 3 dull red petals each. There are male phase and female phase in its florescence, which lasts about 3 days. It bears Rosaceae with an oval appearance and a length of 8 centimeters, ripening in water.

Besides abundant saccharide, fattiness and protein, Water Shield also contains different kinds of polysaccharide, such as acidic heteropolysaccharide, which is an immune enhancement agent against cancer. Furthermore, water shield is also a delicious vegetable.
