Established in May 1960, Shanxi Television (SXTV) sends signals to all parts of North China's Shanxi Province and some parts of Inner Mongolia, Hebei and Shaanxi, accessible to 20 million viewers. It has two channels, broadcasting 119 hours of programs every week. It also broadcasts 240 hours of programs to the United States every month.

SXTV-1 is a comprehensive channel. Its major programs include Shanxi News (Shanxi Xinwen), Tonight 9:30 (Jinwan 9:30), Economy 10' (Jingji Shi Fenzhong) and Yellow Land (Huang Tudi). SXTV-2 broadcasts, among other programs, Yellow River News (Huanghe Xinwen), Yellow River People (Huanghe Ren) and Yellow River Express (Huanghe Kuaidi).

The television station has five studios, two of which cover 400 square meters each. It uses analog component devices in its programming. Signals are sent via cable and microwave from the broadcast monitoring center to the launch pad.
