The Foreign Language Teaching and Research
Press (FLTRP) was established in Beijing in 1979 by Beijing
Foreign Studies University (former Beijing Foreign Languages
Institute), and later in 1995 was merged with Beijing Foreign Language
Audio-visual Publishing House. The FLTRP always deems it its duty to promote the
popularization of foreign language education in China and the deepening of academic research.
It is now advancing towards an academic and educational publishing
group.
The FLTRP is a press that publishes books in
the most kinds of foreign languages. In addition to publishing books in such
languages as English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Arabian, it also
publishes textbooks and reference books in such non-universal languages as
Swedish, Czech, Romanian, Polish, Hungarian, Bulgarian and Serbian-Croatian,
Albanian, Singhalese, Swahili, Cambodian, Laotian, Thai, Burmese, Malay and
Indian, as well as Esperanto and Chinese for foreign learners. From 1997 the
FLTRP began to test-produce electronic publications, and in December 1997, it
bought Beijing Silver Disk Electronic Technology Co., ltd. Consequently, it has
made an important step in developing, producing, publishing, and distributing of
electronic publications.
