Jue or
Juewei was the rank or title of nobility granted by the emperors in ancient
China to their kin and ministers of merits. It was the indication of social
status and how much material benefits they could enjoy. Different Juewei
titles were granted to people according to how close the kinship they
were in or what contribution they had made to the emperor. Additionally,
concubines, daughter, sister and auntie of the emperor, and even mother and wife
of minister of merits were given titles of
Juewei.
