New Anecdotes of Social Talk

Shi Shuo Xin Yu (New Anecdotes of Social Talk) is a mixed record of social anecdotes from the Later Han Dynasty (229AD) to the Southern Dynasty (420-589) written in the Southern and Northern Dynasties Period (420-581). The author was Liu Yiqing (403-444), King Linchuan of the Song State (420-479).

There were originally 8 volumes, but all versions today are just 3 volumes, recording the anecdotes of the nobles from the end of the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD) to the Liu's Song period (420-479), mainly with commentaries on persons, mysterious idle talks and tact stories. The book, which is regarded as important reference material, reflects the spiritual profiles of the powerful and influential families, retaining valuable historical materials about the society, politics, thoughts, literature and linguistics etc.
